Chapter 14 The Netheril Past of Dagger Falls

Today would begin a very long and confusing day in our lives.  It began with Cedar being concerned about his family in Susail and their safety.  Knowing what we had scene and experienced, his concern was well founded in my opinion.  I offered to try to find Potulus and inquire about a quick trip to Susail and back in exchange for future services.  Cedar was planning on using his Clairvoyance and Clairaudience on his family to see how they were doing.  I left the message for Potulus to find me and returned to the group.

We had also uncovered some information on some killings in town and in a nearby village.  Several men had been found dead with a Rave badge in their mouths.  We recovered what details we could, checked the nearby location for additional information on the bodies there, but found nothing conclusive to point at or lay blame for the incidents.

We still had a more pressing matter in that Peraus Wands was missing and had not been seen at his place for a while.  As a group we decided to investigate.  Upon arriving there after dark, we found a man named Merjack checking out his place.  He said he was a special consultant to the City Night Watch.  He had a time glass with sand in it.  He showed us how the sand appeared to slow and stop, as he got closer to the walls of Peraus’ place.

Just as he was showing us this, Corporal Gregory from the City Night Watch showed up.  He dismissed Merjak and apologized if he troubled us at all.  The Corporal had also heard of Peraus’ long absence and, after explaining we were Peraus’ Boys (as the guard new us), he allowed us to go in and check out Peraus’ place for clues and information.

As we entered the place, it was a broken down shack of a place.  There were only the bare necessities and not much else.  With our searching, we uncovered a secret door under his bed.  This lead down a long set of stairs to a huge excavation site that seemed to be under 1/4 of Dagger Falls.  There was also a mirror set up that appeared twisted and bent.  We scouted around a big and then decided to head back up to inform the guard he was not around.  We found the shack more broken down than we went down and, looking out the door, the Temple to Lathander was still under construction it was completed when we went down there.  We returned to the mirror and, doing only as heroes or fools would do, we jumped through the mirror gate.

As we traveled through a tunnel of light, there appeared to be threads through time??  Some stopped and restarted, some started, some faded and stopped.  We appeared to be approaching a massive stoppage in the tunnel where all the threads stopped when we found ourselves exiting the tunnel.  We emerged in a very new place that certainly wasn’t Dagger Falls any more.

We now found ourselves in a town called Coniferia.  It was now the year 3522 N.Y. (Netheryl Year) or 337 B.D.R. (Before Dale Reckoning) Two years after the fall of Netheryl.  The runes of Coniferia are actually below Dagger Falls.  Here, the beauty and Netherese town that formerly on the same location, was in its greatest splendor.

Coniferia is huge, four times larger than Dagger Falls.  Barges were entering the town from the East.  There were Bales of Fur and a lumber mill that had a giant Golem powering it.  There were 3’ metal walls around the border of the town possibly a defensive perimeter?  Some of the local businesses were called the Footsore Inn, Coniferia’s Finest Furs, and Horgan’s Lumber Mill.  There was a new language spoken here Netherese.  We saw a fighter with fluting armor, very unusual for our time period.  The Fighter flew on a flying disk.  We also saw that the wizards have leather neck décor here.

The fighter in the fluting armor approached us.  His name was Gilomide.  He was a Paladin of Amaunator and spoke to us in Lorus.  He was looking for a group to help in finding and killing a wizard in green and brown robes.  He was rumored to be located a few days South West of here.  He had killed 50 villagers from a trapping village.  He was also said to be an Arcanist who consorts with Pheorim. The wizard was named Dubricus.

He gave us a writ deputizing us by the emperor of the Hlondathan Empire.  We finally found Perus Wands and started figuring out some of the information.  Deciphering what was true and what wasn’t was harder here as we were clueless.  The Sharn were said to live in the underground and that the Sharn wall stopped the Pheorim. Perus showed us a plaque he had found in Dagger Falls telling of the demise of Dubricus signed on the back by PW.  This sealed the fact we were to stay in this time and fulfill our roles.

We were at Yeomand’s Loft, an Inn in Coniferia, when Addler and his friends came in accusing us of stealing their job.  They had blasted a hole in the roof of the inn to attempt a dramatic entrance.  Addler challenged Cedar to a Mage Duel with the winner getting a head start on the mission.  Cedar accepted on our behalf.  I had never, ’till this day, seen a Mage Duel.  The magic flew from each of them.  Even though Addler seemed more prepared for this challenge, Cedar was wiping the floor with him.  He was very smart as he stayed invisible and used spells with a reach or range.  After Cedar finished Addler off, his friends attempted to call a foul in the event most would call that being poor losers.  Their group was called Tyche’s Favored.  I have a feeling we will be meeting them again.  We had won a day’s head start due to Cedar’s expertise.

As they came and left in a flying ship I did not recognize, we chose to head out that day on our way to find and stop Dubricus.  We parted ways with Perus Wands and he gave us his map of the area where we were heading.  We were off in a new land, chasing and evil man, against a malice adventuring party sounds like home to me.
